“Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols.”
2 Kings 17:41
I've thought a lot this week about how a key to “coming near to God” is a pure/sincere/undivided heart (Hebrews 10:22). That means we have a heart wholly submitted to Him. We trust Him with our everything.
But how easy is it to do this? I sometimes find myself saying I trust Him, while also placing my trust in something else at the same time. I trust God, but.... I’m really leaning on the number in my bank account, my relationship, my career, a status, a policy, my health, etc....
I find myself just as guilty as God’s people here in 2 Kings who worshipped the Lord while serving their idols too.
Lord, I want to draw nearer to You today. “Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;”(Psalms 26:2). Help me to have a heart that is fully reliant on You, knowing that You are always enough for me.
Amen.
